The average age of dogs is considered to be 10 to 13 years, but Bobi of Portugal was something different. He lived for 31 years and 165 days. For this reason he was also called the oldest dog in the world. The Guinness Book awarded him the title of the oldest dog. But now this title has been taken away from him. Guinness World Records said it had no evidence that an elderly dog that died last year was as old as claimed.
Questions were being raised for years about Bobby’s age. But there is no dearth of his fans. Even today people are curious to know about him, which race did he belong to? How did it survive for so long? When he was recorded in the Guinness Book Records, his age was stated to be 30 years. Bobby belonged to the Rafero do Alentejo breed. And experts claim that the average lifespan of dogs of this type of breed is only 12 to 14 years. Then how did it survive for so long?

What did the Guinness Book say…
Bobby’s owner had submitted a microchip to the Guinness Book of World Records to prove his age. Claimed that this would reveal his real age? When questions started being raised, the Guinness Book started examining the evidence again last month. Guinness World Records said, we have no evidence that Bobby was as old a dog as claimed. The microchip that claims to prove Bobby’s age is not enough evidence to give him this title. Therefore we withdraw this record. At present it has not been decided which dog is the new record holder.
In whose name is the record now?
Bobby’s owner Lionel Costa refused to comment on the snatching of the record. Just said that the doubts regarding Bobby’s age are baseless. Last month, Danny Chambers of the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons said that none of our colleagues believe that the dog actually lived for 31 years. Before this, the crown of oldest dog was in the name of Australian Cattle Dog Bluey. He died in 1939. He lived for 29 years and 5 months.
